Product Overview
Our acid washed coal carbon(DCS) is made from select bituminous coal that we carbonize, steam-activate and then put through an extended acid-washing circuit, bringing the pH down to a stable 5–8 while keeping iodine adsorption above 950 mg/g and methylene blue above 160 mg/g. Standard coal carbons carry alkaline ash that can swing the pH of sugar syrups, organic acids or pharmaceutical intermediates; this grade removes that risk at the source. We manufacture it in-house and supply it with batch certificates covering pH, ash, iodine and moisture, so your purification process stays in spec from lot to lot.

Why Acid Washing Matters for pH-Sensitive Processes
Standard coal-based activated carbons are naturally alkaline because of residual ash and minerals. In sugar refining, organic acid production or pharmaceutical purification, that alkalinity can trigger sucrose inversion, unwanted side reactions or off-spec effluent — and correcting it means extra pH-adjustment equipment, chemicals and cost.
Our acid-washing protocol removes soluble ash and alkaline residues before the carbon leaves our plant, locking the pH into a 5–8 window without damaging the pore structure. High iodine keeps small-molecule adsorption fast, while methylene blue above 160 mg/g confirms the mesopores still pull out large color bodies. The result is clean, stable decolorization with no downstream pH correction.
DCS vs Standard DC Coal Granular Carbon
Our standard coal granular carbon (DC) is the right choice for general decolorization where natural pH is acceptable. When your process is acid-sensitive — sugar syrups at risk of inversion, pharmaceutical streams under pharmacopeial limits — this acid-washed grade adds the extended washing step that brings pH to 5–8 and cuts extractable metals. Choose DC for general purification duty; choose the acid-washed grade when pH stability and low extractables are specified.
