Our Products
Purestar is dedicated to providing thousands of customers worldwide with over 100 types of granular activated carbon, powdered activated carbon, extruded (cylindrical) activated carbon, and activated carbon cloth. Their products are widely used in water treatment, liquid-phase and gas-phase purification, and other applications.
What is Activated Carbon?
Activated carbon is a porous material that removes organic compounds from liquids and gases through a process called adsorption. During adsorption, as the liquid or gas passes through, organic molecules contained in it are attracted and bound to the surface of the pores in the activated carbon.
During adsorption, the liquid or gas passes through a bed or layer of highly porous material called the adsorbent. One or more compounds to be removed, called adsorbates, diffuse onto the surface of the adsorbent and are retained due to weak attractive forces. Adsorption occurs on the internal surfaces of the material.
The main raw material used to produce our activated carbon is bituminous coal, which is then crushed, sized, and processed in high-temperature furnaces. This heating process, known as activation, forms the pore structure of the carbon. By adjusting the activation process, pores of the desired size for specific purification applications are developed.
Activated carbon products are Purestar’s flagship products. Since 1942, we have been industry innovators, developing outstanding activated carbon products and exploring new applications.
