A rigorous acid-wash step neutralizes surface alkalinity to pH 5–8, preventing the pH drift that destabilizes closed-loop systems and the alkaline spikes that spoil first-flush taste in residential filters. We carbonize, activate, and acid-wash every batch in-house, and each lot ships against certified limits for iodine, ash, moisture, and pH.

High Capacity and pH Stability—Without the Trade-Off

Sensitive water treatment usually forces a choice. High-capacity carbons reach >1100 mg/g iodine but carry alkaline ash that disrupts pH-sensitive processes. Acid-washed carbons reach pH neutrality but lose capacity during washing. This grade (PSD-A1 S) resolves it: extended activation builds the micropore volume first, then acid washing removes soluble minerals without collapsing the pore structure.

The result shows up differently in each application. In semiconductor wet processing, it prevents the conductivity spikes and trace-metal introduction that erode wafer yield. In POU drinking water filters, the neutral pH eliminates first-flush alkaline spikes and improves taste. In electroplating baths, ultra-low leachables keep bath chemistry stable while organic brightener breakdown products are removed.

Choosing the Right Grade: Capacity, Purity, or Both

For standard POU and sensitive process water, our pH-neutral grade (PSD-A0 S) delivers excellent performance; but under high organic loading or extended service intervals, the extra 10–15% capacity margin of this acid-washed grade (PSD-A1 S) can be the difference between scheduled maintenance and unplanned breakthrough. Where pH control is not critical, the standard enhanced grade (PSD-A1) offers the same capacity without the acid-washed purity that electroplating, semiconductor rinse, and premium POU systems demand.

Selection is straightforward. Choose the pH-neutral PSD-A0 S where 1,000 mg/g iodine is enough. Choose standard PSD-A1 for high-duty water where pH is not critical. Choose PSD-A1 S when the specification calls for both >1100 mg/g iodine and pH 5–8—semiconductor UPW, electroplating circulation, or premium residential filtration.
